Unwanted Horse Coalition

We at Pet starship know and support many organizations when it comes to animals. So we wanted to make sure our readers know about this one when it comes to the Equine industry.

The Unwanted Horse Coalition represents a broad alliance of equine organizations that have joined together under the American Horse Council to educate the horse industry about the unwanted horse issue.

The UHC grew out of the Unwanted Horse Summit, which was organized by the American Association of Equine Practitioners and held in conjunction with the American Horse Council’s annual meeting inWashington,D.C., in April 2005.

The board is run by the chairman of the AAOEP Russell C Williams. Vice Chairman ofUnited StatesTrotting Association’s Board of Directors. He is also Vice President of Hanover Shoe Farms and Trustee of the Harness Racing Museum. Jim Shoemaker is the vice chairman and is based inSt LouisMo.He is also the AHC Treasurer and past-President, American Quarter Horse Association. Jim is also past vice President and Director, Missouri Quarter Horse Association

The summit was held to bring key stakeholders together to start a dialogue on the plight of the unwanted horse in America. Its purpose was to develop consensus on the most effective way to work together to address this issue.

In June 2006, the Unwanted Horse Coalition was folded into the American Horse Council and now operates under its auspices.
